GSS 2023 Official Mascot

Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens) has been chosen as the “Official Mascot” of the Global Sustainability Summit (GSS) 2023, as it symbolizes the significance of preserving Planetary Biodiversity and protecting Natural Habitats. This move highlights not only the importance of conserving this unique and charismatic species, just in India, across its larger range in the entire eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. The Red Panda is an endangered species in IUCN Red Book, due to habitat loss from deforestation and degradation, as well as poaching and illegal wildlife trade, with an availability of estimated population of less than 2,500 only and their numbers are rapidly reducing. Before this beautiful fauna gets permanently extinct from our Planet, let’s converge our collective wisdom and synergy to save this wonderful animal in all possible manner, since it belongs to the Himalayas, belongs to us, and belongs to India.
